CLASSIC LOVATO AT LARGE: Gay marriage and the enlightened 'love&
Here's another blog guaranteed to piss off everybody but Vlivertarian believes America is about protecting each other's rights and not taking them away.
The issue of gay marriage is a Biblical argument that should not be confused with post-modern, moral relative-ism or the ignorance of many self-proclaimed Christians who have never read, and do not understand the Bible's teachings, and only use the Bible to condemn, which is blasphemy, by definition.
And condemning a true Christian for simply stating their beliefs is nothing more than political correctness and allegations of thought and speech crime.
Christ teaches that we are all sinners and that we are to "love" one another despite our sins and we are all sinners. Love in this case does not mean a feeling but rather the action of treating someone with affection and kindness and respect.
Intelligent Christians believe only God can ordain a marriage between a man and a woman. The State can ordain a civil union. I do not need or even want the state to ordain or recognize my marriage to my wife. God ordains it. There is no greater authority for Christians and Jews and all other people of faith I can think of.
The state's recognition of our civil union gives us legal rights that others don't have and that others can achieve with the correct legal documentation, including a civil union.
Just because someone says they believe in the Biblical teachings of Christ doesn't make them intolerant. Nor should they be asked to "tolerate" things they believe are sinful.
Sin is sin. Love is love.
Tolerance is a flimsy word that only means something to people who want to do anything they want and criticize anyone who says it's wrong.
Here's my kicker for my fellow people of faith: When others act hatefully or ignorantly, we could say they don't know any better. But Christians should. If Jesus was alive today, he would not be dressed in khakis, penny loafers, and an oxford shirt. He would not be beardless or have short hair. He would not be at the Up With People concert or the Amway Convention or the Joel Osteen revival.
He'd be tending to sinners, the sick, the poor, the outcast and children.
I "Love" my wife and children and friends on an emotional level.
I try to "love" everyone else as I would hope they can "love" me but I fail regularly.
As a practicing Christian, I do not personally support drug and alcohol abuse, abortion, prostitution pre-marital sex, etc. But as an American I have to allow others to preserve their right to pursue happiness just as they should support mine.
Vliv and let Vliv.
And, as always, Vliv long and prosper.
