Trumpets: Don't get distracted
Vlivertarian's plan to win the real war
After I was done throwing up in my mouth during the replay of Meryl Streep's Golden Globes screed, then saw the social media backlash, I realized we Donald Trump supporters need to make sure we stay on point.
Following are some milestones and how we can effectively communicate our goals, and not so much our feelings. Already, ESPN, the NFL and Liberal Cable stations are suffering from the one thing that is their Kryptonite: Loss of revenues.
Shazaam!
The fact is, Americans, tired of the radical P.C. and personal attacks for decades, started a revolution by electing the wrench we can throw into the machine. He was not elected for what he is, rather for what he isn't: A Beltway insider, lifetime politician, P.C. supporter, a fearful mainstream media sycophant.
For decades people like me knew we were headed in the wrong direction but felt powerless to make a real change. Then Trump came along. At first, I pushed back, but when I saw the groundswell and his mangling of the Media and the P.C. crowd, I slowly started changing my mind and finally, as Ultra Liberals started losing their minds, and my genetic dislike for the fake, manufactured, two-faced Hillary Clinton or the Marxist Bernie Sanders, I was swept into Trump's arms.
I think many of my fellow Americans went through some version of this transition.
It feels good to rant and rave, and we've done our share of that. But, as I've written before, it is time to avoid distraction and lead.
1. VOTE WITH YOUR MONEY
Even before the sea-change election of Donald Trump, NFL ratings started dropping steeply after Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the National Anthem. Americans were livid that the NFL, 49ers and the Networks, especially ESPN, did nothing but praise his actions. Even his own adoptive mother scolded him.
Former ESPN viewers made it very clear that they tuned out because of the smothering leftist rants from sportscasters and anchors. Sports fans said it is the one place they escaped from politics, finances and the daily grind. They didn't go there to get scolded. The rejections are working. ESPN is almost done and, for the first time in decades, the NFL TV ratings are down. In fact, so far down, they had to refund funds to advertisers.
Is the entertainment industry due for a fall? I suggest it already suffers and should suffer more. For decades, entertainment leaders have turned money away in an attempt to remain true and pure to their "art." In the 60s, entertainers were told to entertain and leave their personal opinions out of it. But after the Liberal Revolt of those times, which we needed then, entertainers seem to believe they have an obligation to bring attention to their causes. I remember when I was a kid and Marlon Brando sent an Indian woman up to accept his Oscar. She then gave a speech about the plight of tribes across the country. She was right, but Americans said it was the wrong place and time to do it. We turned to another station to watch an old movie.
Let's change channels on Hollywood. It is the most nepotistic industry in history, makes millionaires out of perverts, sociopaths, narcissists, substance abusers and general head cases. Ditto sports. I love my sports and movies, but I suggest we start voting with our money. I will never watch a Meryl Streep movie again. If every Trump supporter did the same, we could send a message that rural America just won't accept this P.C. B.S. anymore.
2. DON'T GET DISTRACTED
This is not a time for revenge. This is a time for moving our agenda forward.
I remember the so-called Republican Revolution of the early 90s, an overt reaction to Clinton's election. But when in power, the GOP turned on itself, and wound up proving they were only different from Liberals in rhetoric.
They crushed Newt, built bridges to nowhere, and played hard ball with base closures, among other things.
That's when I quit party politics and started developing Vlivertarian.
Which leads me to No. 3
3. WE WILL SET THE AGENDA
Trump is a master at not backing down and not allowing the media to set his agenda. As a journalist for 36 years, I've seldom seen at any level, and never on a national level, someone destroy the media's attempt to shame politicians with ultra-PC and biased coverage.
Trump and his close advisers do not allow the media to jerk them around. They keep bringing these extremely biased interviewers back to the subject matter at hand.
So we should avoid the typical name calling on social media because when we do, it gives them some credibility they do not deserve. I am even seeing overtly anti-Trump memes and posts designed strictly to get Trumpets to comment - and drive up the posters' views, which boosts their ability to make some easy cash.
Don't take the bait. Focus! We have the Hammer of Thor, let's use it to change policies that will help the most Americans. We need eight years of change and we need to make a change in the things that matter the most instead of winning name-calling matches.
Like Reagan asked, "Are you better off now than you were four years ago?" That should be our cry in 2020.
4. KEEP THESE CROOKS ON A SHORT LEASH
Though I do not like his politics, Obama never really had a chance. Nor would Hillary.
The GOP members stymied Obama, as their constituents wanted, and we staggered through eight years of widening divisiveness.
This time, there are no excuses. Before Trump is even in office, we are seeing some splits among the GOP members.
They should do so at their own risk. Trump voters, while leaning right, really just wanted a wrench to throw into the corrupt, rigged, perpetual motion machine and if I were a Republican, I would fall in line with this mandate or face extinction.
We didn't care about Trump's rhetoric, we just wanted something different. And after Mitt Romney lost the most winnable election in history (up to that time), people like me were pulling their hair out. Romney was everything we didn't want or need: Overly religious, square, bland, manufactured, passionless, an insider. Snoooooooor.....
After decades of being shamed, we wanted a bloodless revolt. Even Roger Moore saw it coming. I call Trump "The Wrench" we throw into the machine. Moore called Trump, "The Molotov Cocktail" we could use to blow it up.
5. WINNING IS JUST THE BEGINNING
Suddenly, things I though I'd never see are possible. The biggest being an incredible reduction of federal government on our daily lives.
As I've written many times, we were never meant to fight over one-size-fits-all federal government.
* Trump will nominate at least one, and possibly three Supreme Court Justices.
* Politicians are talking about a Constitutional Convention that could return lots of powers back to the states.
* Because of this soul-crushing loss, even the Liberals want to split states, recombine states or secede from the Union.
* Even modernizing the Electoral College so gigantic states like California don't control almost every election.
We no longer have to "hope" for change. We can drive the issues, we can set the agenda, we can make the changes real Americans want.
