Why the E.C.? If you are asking, you don't know your history

While it is frightening to believe anyone would make Constitutional changes to solve a short-term problem, it tells me that many anguished Liberals are in no way familiar with the Federalist Papers, Common Sense, The French Rights of Man (Droits de L'Homme) and many other pre-revolutionary war writings upon which the country was founded.

It isn't really a matter of modern politics but a necessary foundation of facts and thoughts.

It is clear that the Founders saw each state as a Republic of its own. They believed that the people in each state would share enough common issues to create a government that best suited its geography and peoples. They believed in a weak central government that only legislated for a common currency, united defense and regulation of interstate commerce. Everything else was left to the states.

Before the Civil War the United States was a plural (The United States are going to war) After the Civil War, United States became a singular. Words like Union and Confederacy are clear indication how the states thought of themselves.

Unlike any other countries I can name, the USA is (or was) considered a number of Republics joined together for three common issues mentioned above. (Like the EU was supposed to be.)

Without our unique form of government, women, minorities and those who do not own land might still be fighting for the right to vote, let alone civil rights. The Founders were really radical and liberal thinkers and wanted us to have every opportunity to make personal and social decisions with as little government involvement as possible.

Part of their reasoning was the concept of putting themselves in the place of the other to make a decision that caused harm to neither. If you think about it, would California want Montana to tell it how to govern itself? What if Florida had the power to govern Alaska?

Now, back to modern politics. I believe we wouldn't have this squabbling if we allowed the states to have all the powers they were dictated by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Then, the EC wouldn't have such a pivotal roll in national politics.

One last thing, in the particular case of the 2016 election, had Hilary or Bernie been elected, how much could they have gotten done with a hostile and polarized Congress? The answer is, like Obama, not much if anything.

It's about balance forever, not just a generation.
