Green New Deal? Simply impractical to enforce
This is kind of like the guns issue. No matter what you believe politically, it is simply impractical to enforce.
Fossil fuels account for about 3/4 of our energy supply right now. Add to that the conveyance and logistics and infrastructure, and it is a very complex and integrated system controlled primarily by mega-companies who keep politicians in both parties well-funded.
From an engineering standpoint, the major urban areas of the country simply do not have the resources or space to produce enough energy to sustain themselves while rural areas have to export the vast majority of fossil fuels, electricity, food and water to urban areas.
I have also checked the numbers and if everyone practiced what they preached, they alone could either solve the "problem" or realize how implausible it is to do so and maintain their current lifestyle.
For those who feel good about plug-in vehicles and hybrids, it's just a shell game. Energy, like matter, cannot be destroyed. It can only be altered. So what? Well, it feels good to plug in your car that gives off zero emissions but that power had to be generated somewhere and somehow then transported to that little plug.
These are immutable facts, unswayed by political or personal beliefs and the biggest culprits who live in high-density areas, are the ones who need to, and should, literally clean up their act instead of putting rural, red-state workers out of jobs while still demanding affordable, dependable supplies of power.
