January Volunteer of the Month Carolyn Wondrow

I grew up in a Warrenville, IL, a small town 30 miles west of Chicago. After graduating from HS, I visited a friend who moved to Billings. Falling in love with Montana, I decided to come west for college and attended Eastern Montana College in Billings getting a degree in elementary education. I returned to Illinois and taught in my hometown for 32 years. Upon retirement, my husband, Les and I decided our hearts were in the mountains so in 2009 we packed up and moved to the Flathead Valley. We built a home in Somers and now I call the Wonderosa my mountain retreat. Looking to make new friends and get involved in the community, I joined the volunteers at West Shore Library. I have been there for about 5 years. I have enjoyed building and maintaining the Children’s Collection with Donnie Slaten Underwood. Working at the library also gives me the chance to work with children again as being one of the Preschool Story Hour facilitators-probably my favorite part of the job. I am also a history buff so I enjoy working with the Somers Company Town Project as treasurer and curator of our museum in Somers. Never too far from my teaching career, I also volunteer at the Museum at Central School with the 1895 Classroom experience we offer third grade students from all over the valley. Working at West Shore Library has given me an opportunity to meet many great volunteers and members from the community young and old.

LCC helps community again

A portion of the funds contributed to WSCL were used to have custom Chamber of Commerce shelves built. This is truly our community working together. Now when tourists stop by to pick up local information, they will be able to locate the information they need. Thank you Lakeside Community Club. Please stop by and see our new and improved display.

Books On Wheels available If you are housebound, or know someone who is, WSCL is providing “BOOKS ON WHEELS” a program to bring books,DVD’s, or audio books right to your door! Please call and leave a message for Carol Clauson (Coordinator) at 844-3917 if you need this service.

Fund Raising Continues Many donors have already made their 2017 contribution to WSCL, which is very much appreciated. If you have not contributed, we would love to hear from you. Please consider WSCL as your local provider of services. With no paid staff, your gift maximizes the benefit to the community. If you did not receive your request, please call the Library. Underwood’s Jams and Syrup 100 percent of proceeds go to Children’s Department for $7 per jar. Stop by WSCL to check out the huge selection.
