1) Frosties to be taken down soon. Volunteers needed.

Well, it will soon be time to take down the frosty

snowmen posted along Hwy 93. The community could use your help with this. The take down effort will start Saturday March 17th at 10 AM. Meet behind the Lakeside Mercantile Building and teams will go from there. Bring your wire cutters and/or cordless drill if you have one, they come in handy. Depending on the number of helpers, we may get it all done that day, or we may do a second take-down later in the month.

If you have volunteered in previous years, please don’t wait for a call from me to sign up. I leave on vacation today, and won’t be working the phones as usual. Sam Birky will be leading this year’s take down effort. You can reach him at 249-8273 or email him at hooyah49@gmail.com to sign up. Our frosties could sure use your help. … Thank you …

4) West Shore Community Dinner. Everyone invited.

Once again several of our gregarious citizens have decided to host a community dinner / get together during the dull winter months. So, mark Friday March 23, 5-6 PM on your calendars and plan on joining your neighbors for a FREE dinner with all the fixings. This month it will be an amazing “Julia Childs” dinner. If you want to get the details, show up and dive in. The meal will be served at The Gathering Place, (the building just behind the Methodist chapel across from the park on Hwy 93). Donations welcome.

5) Lakeside/Somers Mural Project Update:

As many of you know, several movers & shakers in Lakeside and Somers have come together to conduct a “Proof of Concept” test project for community beautification. The objective of this small scale project is to evaluate the feasibility of creating and placing attractive outdoor murals in Lakeside and Somers. I am pleased to report that the funds were raised, several murals are currently being created, and display locations have been found.

Would you like to play a part in this effort? Do you have an artistic bend? We have materials for two more 4’ x 8’ murals. Give me a call after March 30th when I return from overseas and I will get the supplies to you. There are three mural themes you can choose from: Local natural beauty, Local history, and/or Kids having fun.

If you would like to volunteer the use of a highly visible space to display a mural for the summer or contribute some cash to help in this effort, I would love to hear from you. Email me at: beneschd1@gci.net.

6) Community Garden: Plots being reserved now.

Heads up, Spring is coming fast. For those of us who are green thumbs, (or green thumb wananbes), it is time to order seeds and plan your garden. Don’t have a garden? Not to worry, we have a community garden in Lakeside and there are plenty of plots to go around. It is just $25 per year for your very own 4x8 plot and the soil is very fertile. Call Gina Jepson at 407-3345 to reserve your spot. (And tell her what kind of seeds you want to plant, the garden provides seeds to its members.)

7) Somers Company Town Project Fundraising event

The Somers Company Town Project will be hosting its 8th Annual Spirits of the Valley Tasting Event on Saturday, March 24, 2018. It will be at the Best Western Plus Flathead Inn and Suites located at 4823 US Hwy 93 S just north of Somers from 6-9pm. The price is $25 which will include appetizers and desserts, spirits tasting from Whistling Andy's, beer from Tamarack Brewing Company and wines from Mission Mountain Winery. A silent auction and raffles will take place throughout the event so bring your checkbook. This is a fundraiser to enhance exhibits in the Somers Company Town Museum and landscape the pavilion that protects the S2 engine in downtown Somers. Tickets are available at the door.

Entertainment will be provided by Billy Angel. Contact Person: Carolyn Wondrow. Lcwondrow@gmail.com 406-857-2373 406-471-1531
