Write An Essay, Win A Restaurant!
Why sell the Woods Bay Grill in an essay contest? Simple--to pass along a community favorite to someone who will love it just as much as Terry, Margaret, and Leslie have done. And for only $150 and a 300 word essay, you could become the next owner of the Woods Bay Grill.
Sisters Terry Browning and Margaret Davis-Stiger purchased the grill in 2004 after learning the owner Pam was ready to move on. It was an endeavor that would shape the family for over a decade. Margaret had always wanted to run her own business, and Terry was looking for something after retirement from the Army Corps of Engineers. Since then, they have bought the building as well, completely remodeling it into a hometown cafe that draws in locals and tourists alike.
Originally nicknamed Kazz’s Place, the restaurant was supposed to transfer to Margaret’s son Kazz Stiger when the time was right. However, tragedy struck the family in 2015 when Kazz died due to a drug overdose at the age of 25. His passing devastated the family. Ready to move on, the sisters have turned to a more creative method that has worked for other businesses around the country. Inspired by the Center Lovell Inn’s story, they have decided to open up their cafe to an essay contest in hopes that someone with the same desire and passion will write just the right essay and take over the Grill.
For a small $150 entry fee and 300 words, prospective owners can explain their aspiration to own the cafe. Essays must demonstrate experience working in the restaurant industry, a desire to run a successful restaurant, and to become a member of the Woods Bay Community. Terry, Margaret, and Leslie will review the applications initially and pass the top 50 entries to a panel of judges. The panel will then choose the next owner of the Woods Bay Grill based upon the entries passed along to them.
