West Shore Happenings: June 2018

The co-founders of the Lakeside/Somers Mural Project mounted its first mural on the Somers Post Office.

(Above, Dan Benesch and Jamie Lee Dooling (far left) get some help from Otter co-owner and art director Michelle Lovato to get the mural leveled. Local artist Lovie Englishbee painted this lake-side vision.)

Project members will mount a second beautiful mural by Kathy Weller, in front of the Lakeside Post Office in June.

The Mural Project is part of the newly created group The West Shore Art Initiative which hopes to add events and additional art-based endeavors in the area as well as Mural Project which will continue and will grow.

Discussions of hosting art exhibits and guest speakers are being batted about, as well as a potential fundraising event this Fall to prepare for the “Official” project launch next year. If you have questions or would like to participate, call 871-5548 or westshoreart@gmail.com.

Somers Arts Festival This Weekend

The “Spoke & Paddle” in Somers is sponsoring an art show June 2 & 3. There will be displays of wood & glass art, fiber art, paintings, jewelry, and more. Live music from 12-2. Show hours: 10-5 on Saturday, 10-3 on Sunday.

This “Proof of Concept” pilot project appears to be generating some strong interest. Some excellent feedback from locals has led the organizers to the conclusion that they may want to have more options than simply creating and displaying murals. It has been decided that a more open art identity/purpose should be emphasized, so the name of the organization has been changed to the “West Shore Art Initiative”. Discussions of hosting art exhibits and guest speakers are being batted about, as well as a potential fundraising event this Fall to prepare for the “Official” project launch next year. This newsletter will keep you informed as things develop. If you have questions or would like to explore how you could participate, contact me at 871-5548. (Dan)

Miscellaneous:

Clean Fill Wanted: Remember: If you are excavating locally and have to haul away dirt & rocks, please don’t haul your clean fill out to some distant dump site. We have several places for it locally. NOTE: It must be clean fill, no stumps or construction materials. Rocks are fine.

Local Investor, (me), wants to buy your West Shore house (if it is under $400k).

If you have a recent independent appraisal and you are willing to sell your property for the appraised price, I am probably willing to buy it. I am a local investor and I need more rental properties. I also buy homes that need repairs and can’t be bank financed. I do buy trailer homes IF they come with the land they are on. (I don’t buy ones that have to be moved or are on rented lots.) Buying raw land might be possible.

Lets talk: Dan Benesch 871-5548.
