Lakeside celebrates School Lunch Week
Lakeside MT – To recognize the National School Lunch Program and the 30 million children it serves every day, Somers/Lakeside schools will recognize National School Lunch Week from October 15-19, 2018. The theme, “Lots 2 Love,” encourages students and school nutrition professionals across the country to share what they love most about school lunch programs.
National School Lunch Week will emphasize the healthy foods that are offered daily at Somers and Lakeside schools. On October 23rd, Lakeside Elementary School will host their annual Montana Harvest Meal and students are encouraged to invite their parents and guardians to join us for a celebration lunch! We will feature a menu made entirely with locally grown Montana products, like beef hamburgers, roasted potatoes & vegetables, with apple crisp for dessert!
“School lunches are healthier than ever, with more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and less fat and sodium,” said Food Service Director Robin Vogler, “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the benefits of our lunch program, and the appealing choices we offer.”
Our School nutrition program is helping educate kids about healthy choices and physical activity. We participate in the Harvest of the Month program and students are encouraged to try Montana products throughout the year. We strive to create healthy and good tasting meals that our students and staff enjoy.
The federally-funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides nutritionally balanced, healthy meals to students every day. The program, which has been serving the nation’s children for more than 70 years, requires school meals to meet federal nutrition standards like offering fruits and vegetables every day, serving whole grain-rich foods, and limiting fat, calories, and sodium.
The “Lots 2 Love” campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association. Parents and students can follow the fun using the hashtags #NSLW18, #SchoolLunch, and #Lots2Love.
